Privacy policy
Last updated: 16 October 2026
Mizan is an app for recording personal debts and accounts, provided by Electronics Technology Group in Libya (“we”). This policy explains what data we collect and why, how we protect it, and what choices you have.
- Your financial records (people, debts, accounts, transactions, goals, reminders) stay on your phone and never reach us. A debt you send to someone on Mizan reaches them encrypted from your phone to theirs, and we cannot read it.
- A Mizan account is optional. If you create one, we keep only what it needs: your name, your email or phone number, your plan, and your encrypted backups.
- Backups kept on our server are encrypted on your phone with a passphrase you choose, so we cannot read them.
- No ads, no tracking or analytics tools, and we never sell your data.
1. What stays on your phone
Everything you record in Mizan: people and their details (name, phone, note), debts and repayments, accounts, income, expenses and transfers, categories, recurring items, savings goals, reminders, currencies and rates, the app’s settings, and the app lock PIN (stored as a hash that cannot be read). This data:
- is kept in the app’s storage on your device and is not sent to our servers;
- is not part of Android’s automatic backup to your Google account;
- can be exported by you in a backup file encrypted with a passphrase you choose;
- is erased when you delete the app or use “Delete all data” in Settings.
Error log: the app keeps its last 200 technical errors on your phone only, without amounts, names or phone numbers. It is never sent to us on its own; it reaches us only if you choose “Report a problem” in Settings and send it yourself.
2. What we collect if you create a Mizan account
- Account: the name you choose; your email address, phone number or both; your password, stored only as a one-way hash that cannot be read; whether your email and phone number are confirmed. If you sign in with Google: your Google account identifier, name and email as Google sends them.
- Devices and sessions: a random identifier for each installation of the app, a device name (such as “Mizan on android”), the platform, the app version and the last activity time; sign-in tokens are stored hashed. You can see your devices and sign any of them out in the app.
- Mizan on the web: when you let a browser into your account (with a code you type in the app), we keep the browser’s name and system (such as “Chrome on Windows”) and when it signed in, with a hash of the code. A browser’s session reaches the wallet and the plans only, never your debts, and ends after 12 hours or when you sign it out in the app.
- Card distributors: if support makes you a distributor of Mizan cards, we keep the name you are known by, your credit ceiling, and the packages you took and what you paid. The numbers of your cards not topped up yet stay with us encrypted, so you can sell them from the app, and are erased once someone tops one up.
- Plan and subscription: your plan and its dates, trial, gifts, the activation codes you redeemed, and payment orders with their status and reference. When paying online (once available), card details are entered on the payment provider’s page (Moamalat); they never reach us and we do not store them.
- The Mizan Wallet: your balance and what moved it: the cards you topped up (their serial and value), the plans you bought with the credit, and support’s corrections with their reason. Card numbers themselves are kept only as an encrypted fingerprint.
- Backups on our server (with Mizan Cloud): the backup file as your phone encrypted it (we cannot open it), with its size, date, app and data version, and which of your devices uploaded it.
- Emails: we send sign-up, sign-in, email confirmation and password reset codes, security notices (such as a password change) and service notices (such as backups about to be deleted, or a gift). We send no marketing email.
- Confirming your phone number: a Mizan account is created with a phone number you prove is yours. When you send the ready-made confirmation message from WhatsApp to Mizan’s number, WhatsApp tells our server the number it came from and the message, and Mizan’s number answers automatically. If you ask for a code, it reaches your number by SMS or on WhatsApp. We keep the confirmation request (the number, its time, and hashes of its codes) for two days at most, and the time of each code sent, with a hash of the number, for one day, to limit how many codes a number gets.
- Debt messages: when you link someone on Mizan, a debt you record with them goes to them to confirm. Your phone encrypts it for theirs (each device has its own keys; we keep only the public ones), so it passes through our server without us being able to read it, and it is deleted when they receive it or after 30 days. We only know who sent to whom, and when. The other person sees what you send: the amount, the note, and your name and number.
- Your name and date of birth: your first, middle and last names and your date of birth, because Mizan is for people aged 18 and over, and so another phone does not ask them again. The people you deal with see only your first and last name.
- Your agreement to the terms: the version of the terms of use and privacy policy you agreed to, and when.
- Messages that did not arrive: if a message you sent expires before the other person’s phone receives it, or their phone receives it but cannot open or apply it, we keep a notice of that for your phone: the message’s id, whom it was for, and why, so you know it did not arrive and can send it again.
- Blocks, reports and message limits: if you block someone, we keep that you blocked them and when, to drop what they send you. If you report someone, we keep who reported whom and when, the reason you chose, and the ids of the messages you pointed at (not their content, which we cannot read). To limit unwanted messages, we keep that one account wrote to another, whether it was answered, and how many of its messages are unanswered.
- Notifications of debt messages: if you allow notifications, the server keeps your device’s notification token (from Google Firebase), the kind of phone and the app’s language, to wake your phone when a message reaches you, and to tell you about your plan and wallet. A message notification only says you have a new message, with no name or amount; a plan notification says the plan ends soon (with its end date) or has ended, or that the wallet holds too little to renew it, without the balance.
- Who of your contacts is on Mizan: if you allow Mizan to read your contacts, the app sends their numbers only (no names) to learn which of them are on Mizan. The server answers with account identifiers only and does not keep the numbers; we keep how many numbers were checked each day, to prevent abuse. The result stays on your phone.
- Support: if you contact us on WhatsApp, we see what you send us.
3. Technical data
- The app sends our server its platform and version number with its requests, to learn whether a newer version exists or yours is no longer supported.
- Our server records each request’s time, path and result, and your account identifier when you are signed in — without your IP address, the request’s content or any password.
- We use your IP address to count repeated requests and prevent abuse. These counters are temporary (minutes, and up to a day for some actions such as requesting codes) and are not tied to your account. Our hosting provider may keep standard technical logs for a short time for security.
4. Phone permissions
- Notifications: for the debt reminders you set, to tell you when a debt message reaches you, and when your plan is activated, is about to end or has ended, or your balance cannot renew it.
- Run after restart: to reschedule reminders after your phone restarts.
- Fingerprint or face: to unlock the app if you turn it on. Your phone’s system handles it entirely; we never receive your fingerprint or face data.
- Contacts (read only): if you allow it, so Mizan can show you who of them is on Mizan and you can add one to your book. The app asks after explaining this, and you can turn it off in the phone’s settings. Names never leave your phone; numbers are checked as in section 2.
- Internet: for the account, backups, exchange rates and update checks.
Mizan does not access your location, camera, microphone, messages or photos, nor your contacts unless you allow it. As for files, it only opens the backup file you choose to save or restore, or a report you choose to share.
5. How we use data
To run your account and sign you in; to keep it secure (codes, notices, the device list, abuse prevention); to provide your plan’s features (server backups, live exchange rates, premium themes); to tell you about updates; to answer support requests; and to meet legal obligations. We do not use your data for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell it.
6. Who we share data with
Only with the service providers that run the service for us, limited to what each one needs:
- Libyan Spider: hosting of our server and database.
- Brevo: email delivery (European Union): your email address and the message.
- Google: if you choose to sign in with Google, under Google’s privacy policy.
- Moamalat: when you pay online, once available; card details are entered on its page.
- The exchange-rate provider: receives no personal data.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: delivers notifications to your phone (on an iPhone through Apple’s notification service): your device’s notification token and the general notification text, with no name or amount.
- WhatsApp: when you choose to send someone a reminder or to contact us, Mizan opens WhatsApp with a message you review and send yourself. Mizan has no access to your WhatsApp account.
- Meta (WhatsApp Business): to confirm your phone number: your number and the confirmation message you send to Mizan’s number, Mizan’s answer, or the confirmation code if you ask for it on WhatsApp.
- Resala: a Libyan company that sends confirmation codes by SMS to Libyan numbers: your number and the code.
We may disclose data when the law or an order of a competent authority requires it.
7. How we protect data
- Encrypted connections only (HTTPS).
- Passwords and codes are stored as one-way hashes.
- Backups are encrypted on your phone with AES-256-GCM, using a key derived from your passphrase (PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256, 200,000 rounds). If you forget the passphrase, nobody can open the backup — not even us.
- An optional app lock with a PIN or biometrics.
- Administrative access is restricted and logged.
8. How long we keep data
- Account data: while your account exists.
- Server backups: up to the number of copies your plan keeps; older ones are deleted automatically. When your plan ends, they stay available for download for 30 days (we email you a week before), then they are deleted.
- Codes: sign-in and confirmation codes expire within minutes, password reset codes within 30 minutes, and unused activation codes are deleted when their validity ends.
- Sessions: expire on their own, and you can end them at any time.
- Phone confirmation requests: deleted after two days at most.
- Debt messages: deleted from the server when the other person’s device receives them, or after 30 days at most.
- Notice of a message that did not arrive: deleted when your phone reads it, or after 30 days at most.
- Blocks and who wrote to whom: while both accounts exist; a block is deleted when you lift it, and all of it is deleted when either account is deleted.
- Reports: while both accounts exist. When either is deleted, the report (who reported whom, when, the reason and the message ids) stays under the deleted account's random identifier for the retention period (5 years), so no one can erase what was reported about them by deleting their account; then it is deleted automatically.
- Your name, date of birth and agreement: while your account exists, and deleted with it.
- Notification token: while your device is signed in to your account; replaced when it changes or another account signs in on the device, and deleted when you delete your account, or when Firebase tells us the app was removed from the phone.
- Contact checks: the numbers are not kept; the daily count of numbers checked is deleted after a day.
- The wallet: while your account exists; deleted with the account (the security record keeps only the amount of credit given up).
- When you delete your account: all of the above is deleted at once: your name, phone number, email, devices, sessions, keys and backups. We keep a short security record of events (such as “account deleted”), tied to a random identifier that no longer points to you. Records of money transactions are kept, anonymised, for the retention period (5 years): payment orders and attempts, wallet lines and distributor lines, with only their amounts, dates, payment-gateway references and order numbers, and reports of unwanted debt messages made by you or about you, under a new random identifier with a one-way hash of the phone number (the number cannot be recovered from it), so support can match a dispute if you give your number. They are deleted automatically when the period ends.
9. Your rights and choices
- See your account data in the app: Settings → Account & devices.
- Correct your name on the same page.
- Export your financial data in an encrypted backup file.
- Delete your account at any time, in the app or through the account deletion page.
- Use Mizan without an account at all: everything works on your phone.
10. Children
Mizan is not directed to children; it is meant for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect children’s data. If you learn that a child created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Where data is processed
Our server and database are hosted by Libyan Spider, emails are sent through Brevo in the European Union, Google processes Google sign-in, Meta processes the WhatsApp confirmation messages, and Resala sends SMS codes from Libya. Some of your data may therefore be processed outside Libya, for these purposes only.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date of the last update appears at the top, and we will tell you in the app about any significant change.
